How to start a Podcast and earn from it: Steven Bartlett


This week I listened to the podcast Diary of a CEO by Steven Bartlett... I try to listen to his podcast regularly as it is one of the biggest business podcasts now... But surprisingly he started doing this podcast regularly only 10 months ago... And it is now one of the most famous among them... In this podcast, he shared how his podcast grown so fast within this small time... All the plans and techniques needed for podcasts to succeed... This is mainly for the people who want to start a podcast and also for the people who want to do any kind of audience building...

In this podcast, Steven shared how this podcast is going to make 1.2 million this year... As per their business analytics...

  1. Consistency- Steven told that consistency is the biggest thing in any work... He started the podcast in a room and purely for his own interest. But when he decided he wants to grow the podcast he recorded more episodes... But it was never consistent... He sometimes recorded and sometimes didn't... It was not his priority... But last year he suddenly wanted to take this as a priority... So he decided he is going to release an episode every Monday... And this is fixed... They did that for nearly a year and now the view count of the podcast went very high...
  2. Getting your podcast discovered- getting your podcast discovered is very important... You can share it on your social media sites as it will bring more audience... But the main thing he did was interviewing many well-known people in his podcast... When these people came they bring their audience also which make the podcast more discovered.
  3. Maintaining a high quality of work- maintaining the quality of work is very important... He did this by working hours in making the points and scripts for the solo episodes... Also, interviews should go in a proper way so the research should be very good as the interviewee should be able to answer properly and it should provide value... He cancelled some of the interviews and never published them as they were not up to the mark...
  4. Money- people said to him that making money through podcasts is very hard... As per 1000 downloads, you only make 50 bucks... Ya... It is low compared to other social media sites but it is not bug enough reason for not trying... He also included YouTube as a medium of the podcast and invested a good amount of money for production value so people can watch the video content of the podcast... It helped in earning more money and people came to listen to the podcast from YouTube... Also, advertising is a big factor in money-making in podcasts... He chose brands he likes and approached them to fund them for the podcast in the advertisement... They did... So he can genuinely share the things he likes with people and also can make money through them...
  5. Why he started and new reasons to keep going- he started the podcast because it was cool and he liked the idea of doing so... But now he does that definitely because of money and fame but also mainly because he can meet new people and like-minded people all the time... Some of them became very good friends of his after doing the podcast... They hangout... As a relationship is the most important and networking is most important this podcast helped him knowing so many people and be close to so many people... This is enough reason for him to continue this podcast now...

  The fourth book in ZODIAC ACADEMY series is THE SHADOW PRINCES..
