Why do I write in a blog when I just write so bad
When I thought about starting a blog first thing that came to my mind is that I don't have money, so I have to search for free website ideas and came to this, which is not a website but a blog. but it is still pretty fine until I don't have any income, when I will have one, I will pay for a good website. the second thing that came into my mind was in am just the worst at writing. When it comes to writing stuff in English I will manage it on exams and stuff but it is nowhere enough to write a blog post. My writing is still a very big embarrassment for me. Whenever I post something here, I reread the post so much and at last, I get tired and just post it. ππ
Spellings are complete blunders for me. I never remembered the spelling of some very big words and while writing some words come to my mind which I use in writing which feels good, but is some big words, most of the time I write it wrong and I need to correct it afterwards. Thinking that I am not worthy of writing stuff online and people don't want to read something utterly nonsense, was a big fear. But then I came over it. ππ
Everybody has the same problem
The most important person who helped me in overcoming my fear of writing is my favourite author of all time The Brandon Sanderson. I loved his books and I get so much value from his writing which I can't even express. When I was watching some of his videos, him writing his novel live, I looked that he did so many spelling mistakes and grammar mistakes and other writing-related stuff. I was amazed that I big writer like him can have this kind of mistake like me? π±Then I saw some more videos, where he mentioned that he is not very good at spelling words or writing perfect grammar or beautiful sentences at once. He gave the concept of being the architect, i.e. in writing or any kind of creative stuff, we have the feeling that the person is utterly creative and he knows so much more than me and he is a genius or superhuman, so he can do this stuff, which is utterly wrong. people who do produce good stuff or concept or theory are not the person who is naturally the talented or genius guy, but the person, who work hard and make corrections. ππ
Rule 1: Quantity over Quality
There is an experiment mentioned in the book Art and Fear that is so important in understanding this. In this experiment on the opening day of a ceramic class, the teacher announced that he is dividing the group of 60 people into 2 groups. one group will produce 1 pot every day for 30 days and the second group will make only one pot throughout the 30 days and will make it perfect. After the experiment, when the time to give marks came, it is been seen that all the highest marked pots are from group one, and not a single pot in group two got the highest marks. πͺπͺ
The conclusion of the experiment was if you do shitty stuff every day rather than producing quality stuff once or twice a month, that leads to growth and betterment of the product. So the solution to my writing problem is writing. I cannot fix the problem by pondering over and over on a single piece of a blog post, I cannot make it right, because it is not going to work and it never works like that, I do revisions and correct spellings in my post but in a very minimal level. Because the only way to beat my writing quality is by writing regularly, continuously, every day. I am sold on this thought. I am writing as much as I can get time to write. And I revise this once after finishing the writing and then I just post it. ππ
I have the thought that people will judge me by my writing stuff this bad, but I also know that my writing is going to get better with time, and in one year I can look back and see the changes in my writing, and the people can also see the difference of the quality. πΌπΌ
Rule: 2 Discoverer and Architect
The second thing I came across is the difference between the discoverer and the architect. The discoverer is the person who is motivated to write and writes when something comes to them and makes great pieces. most literary writers are said to be like this. But it is kinda impossible for me as well as my friend Sanderson, i.e. we are not that talented and most of the time we don't find the soul of writing or inspiration for writing. So the only way for us to be a good writer is by being an architect. that is we plan stuff ahead of time and make a list of things that we are going to write about and when the time comes, we write, we just write, we don't think about motivation, we don't think about quality, we don't think about people who are going to read this. and we do this for a long time until the building is finished or in our case, it is a blog or article or a story. The only way to be a writer is by writing. Commitment and routine is a more important thing than motivation or inspiration. ββ
Rule: 3 FBR Principal
Safi Bahcall said about this writing rule. It is called the FBR principle. The process of writing is divided into many parts, but the first part is hunting, the second is drafting and the third is editing. We are going to talk about Drafting, i.e. you write whatever comes to your mind. When you came with the topic, and things you want to write and made a list of all that stuff, then the most creative part comes to the play, that is drafting. In this phase, we just write by our heart. We write whatever comes to our mind and we don't think if it is good or bad or whatever. It is very easy to write a sentence and look up to it and think how bad it is and trying to make it right. But the best thing we can do is FBR principal. ππ
We need to think about the first draft of writing will always be FBR, i.e. Fast, Bad and Wrong. You don't accept anything more than that from any of the 1st drafts anymore. We know it is going to be very bad, so we don't need to check it in every sentence, we just need to write. I do this stuff regularly, I just write whatever comes to my mind in the 1st draft and it is always bad, but after the writing is complete I revisit the writing and make changes and correct stuff. ππ
The main rule for good writing is you need some writing on a page or screen, then you can make it better. You can edit it as much as you want and as many times as you want, although I won't recommend that to anybody. I do only one revision of my writing because trying to make something perfect is worthless. I don't want to spend much time is correcting stuff, rather I will spend that time writing something else. It will be more fun. π¬π¬
Conclusion
So that's it, folks. this is it for today's writing advice. I suppose you think why I wrote this stuff? it is just to make myself remember the rules of writing once again and that it is okay to be wrong and bad. Maybe someone will find it useful and start writing themselves, and I would love to see them. some of my friends do have their own blogs, and I really love reading their stuff and they do a much more good job than me. So you too can do all this stuff... πππ
