Equality vs Equity

It is a long debate among people about the concept of equity and equality.. To know about this concept first we need to know about these topics separately..

What is equality?

Equality is a system, where each and every person in the society is treated equally and is given equal opportunities… It is like in a class full of students, everybody will be taught the same thing, containing the same subjects, in the same duration, no favours will be given to anyone..

What is equity?

Equity is the system, where every person is given favours based on their background and abilities.. Like in a class the students who are less gifted in understanding a subject are given more attention..

How do these work?

From the beginning of the time, equality was not to be seen.. it is not natural law to have equality between people, or animals or in the natural world.. Equality means stability or statics, which is not very good for the growth of nature and the natural world..

Like in every environment certain kind of species has some advantages, whereas others don’t.. And even in the strength, some species are stronger than others, who can dominate or even kill the less powerful.. It is also seen within species, that is a powerful one, in a group becomes the leader or the head of the pack, while the others who are less powerful follow, and even get killed for the leader..

In the human population, the second kind of behaviour is seen widely, but as it is humans, the difference, the division depends on many and very complex things, then power.. Example- race, money, class, religion, gender, education etc..

Nowadays every country wants to bring equality to their citizens as everyone should have equal opportunities and get the chance to better themselves.. India is one of them..

But the most questionable thing is, what about the people who are already suffering and have been suffering for generations? If they will be given equal opportunities then they still can’t have equal situations bcz of the generational burden of many deficiencies, honour killing, untouchability, mental trauma, and even undernutrition… If a student doesn’t know the English alphabetical system, and we give them the opportunity to give 10th board with other people, that doesn’t bring equality, that isn’t even the equal opportunity..

So to bring equality to society in the future, we need to use equity first. and that is the spend resources on people who need it most.. Helping poor people with money doesn't make sense for many people, but to bring them to a normal stage, they need food, shelter, and clothing to even start thinking about equality..

Equality never brings balance in society.. Equal distribution all doesn’t make anything equal but the division stays the same.. Rather equity gives people how much they need, and that makes everything balanced..

Controversies

There are people who think taxpayers' money should not go to the lazy people and they should be used in the growth of the society of the payers themselves.. Making society equal means the rich will not have that much richness anymore or everybody will be equal so rich people will lose their social status, which also indicates fear to them..

Conclusion

But people forget that developing society doesn’t mean developing non-living objects, society is created by the people around us, and if they don’t live happily that makes every one of us unhappy..
