Religion vs Spirituality
I am not religious I am spiritual.. It is a very common saying..
More people are becoming spiritual nowadays.. But what is actually spirituality? And what is the difference between religious and spiritual… I don’t know.. It is true that we can find many dictionary terms and definitions to define these two words.. But with the more use of both terms nowadays, the division and the definition have changed a lot..
Religion has a religious book and a certain god and angels and when people follow the book they are called religious.. But when people deal with the spirit or the soul within the body, it is called spiritual.. Religion has a very clear definition, but spirituality nowadays has evolved a lot, the shamanic, and tribal practices are also considered in spirituality now..
But the problem is somewhere else, when we try to find the difference between the religion and spirituality, it is said that spiritual people believe the god is within us, religious people believe God is someone outside of us, and spiritual people believe in the power within the spirit, and religious people believe superhuman power outside of the body..
But all these concepts don’t work in India.. In ancient Indian Sanskrit texts, many paths to reach the god is been mentioned.. These are thought of as religious books nowadays, and they say about Dwaitabad and Adwaityabad.. One is bhakti marga and one is Gyan marga.. Both are said to be the religious and virtuous way toward the god..
If we think that the scriptures are not religious, as they were secular in nature, that can be true, as the concept of religion is very different from the concept of religion thousands of years ago.. But isn’t if something is written in a book as a way to reach the god, counts are religious..
I myself think that spirituality is also a kind of religion, where people when they don’t find answers, make their answers themselves and try to be happy.. And while people can make anything they want to believe in, but they should not preach or teach others about these concepts, as believing anything without experimentation or experience can lead to more harm than good..
