What is Identity

Who am I?? When we ask ourselves this question the answer we get is our name and surname.. If we are future asked more information about ourself then we reply as to where we live and our nationality and parents name... But there are variations in the identities.. There are various kinds of identities in the society that is present.. As we all know to some degree that the various types we use in various situations..

But to have an identity we have to be born in a society, which will culture us to its norms and abstract beliefs, which will make us understand our identities.. These are to some degree most needed.. As we humans are only capable of imagination and only for that reason we can use various unknown sounds in languages, various even numerous languages...

Geographical identity- This is the country or state or place we live in.. We can state the name of the city as Kolkata or the country like India as a symbol of our identity..

Language identity- We say what language or language group we speak in.. And it gives others a sense of idea about us..

Religious identity- In which religious community do we belong.. If we do have any religion or not..

Educational identity- What is our educational qualification or our achievements in the academic fields..

Caste identity- Which caste do we belong from.. Mostly this is what our parents belong in..

Clan identity- It refers to a bigger group of people we belong to which comes from unknown or mythical ancestors..

Political identity- What is our political affiliation is also can be a place to belong and can be called an identity..

Gender identity- This is one of the most controversial topics of identity.. It defines which gender group we identify with..

Class identity- The definer of which class we belong to is our class identity.. Mostly this is been decided based on economical situations.

Career identity- Which career path we follow gives us, an identity of who we are, as per what we do..

Family identity- We always use a surname after our name, which denotes our family, also our parents and family are also an identification.. Mostly it comes from the economical power in the family..

Ethnic identity- Which ethnic groups are a part of, denotes our ethnic identity.

Racial identity- The race we are, denotes a kind of identity.. It gives us the same features and same looks..

Most of these identities make us a part of a large group, which we can refer to whenever in distress.. This also gives us, a somewhat common culture and customs.. All these identities we have and many more.. But identities are different for each of the people, to make them recognisable.. Most of the time these identities are not changeable or fixed on us by the societies we live in..

But nowadays identities are getting more flexible and people are able to change their identities to whatever they want it to be... The identities were age-old when the time changes the identity categories also change.. It will make people free from the need to fit in anything they don’t want to..
