Shaming Woman For Being "Womanly"

In the past, women were taken as less of an individuals than a man.. The patriarchal society lead to the rule of men in the outer world, property ownership and voting rights, while women only stayed in the household, beauty and marriages.. The main value of a woman was given based on her beauty.. From a very young age, women are taught to look pretty and behave nicely and prepare to find a nice man to get married.. This was the structure of the elitism in women.. the more a woman can look pretty and marry a rich person, the more value she has.. Although the scene was different in not-so-rich classes.. Although they didn’t have the means to look pretty they tried their best to make themselves look good and tried their best to marry a decent person..

The class structure among the women got divided based on looking good.. As it is expensive to look good, so the good looks became the highest status for women, as it signalled possible richness.. But when the 1st wave of feminism hit the world, women got the right to vote and then in the 2nd and 3rd waves, they got the right to work and property ownership.. Women got out of the household work and orientation.. They got jobs and did everything they wanted to do.. and to fight the patriarchal hegemonic structure of women to look pretty, women decided to bring not feminine.. They decided to not do anything conventional to society, they cut their hair short, started wearing pants, did not get married and started making their career priority over family…

It was all so well and good, until the movies of the 1990s and 2000s started portraying women archetypically.. We have seen many women who are portrayed in the shows and movies, who wore pink dresses, looked pretty and wanted to get married as inferior to the women, who didn’t want those and focused on carrier.. It also showed in the real-life works, women were valued less or called whore, if they looked good and wanted to marry rich.. Although these are the traditional patriarchal form created by the society from a long time, still people should have their freedom of choice..

Women who worked in any respective jobs and spent their money looking good were also criticised, for spending their money “to impress men”.. It was never true.. Nobody dressed to impress anyone else, or even if they wanted to impress anyone, then who are we calling ourselves as feminists to shame anybody’s desires.. It leads to a situation where young girls are made to hate the coloured pink, as it seems like a subject of submission.. Firstly our society divided gender norms and symbolised them in colours and then it made other women hate their own past and create a limited life..

In the way to get freedom and equality and rights, women wanted to be like men. it is okay to be like anyone but to be like a man, and shaming other women for being womanly should not be praised, and equality should be given to everyone.. The traditions that made woman’s class structure based on beauty is still prevalent in many areas, but that doesn’t give us any permission to make any judgement about anyone based on their choices of life…

Society is still patriarchal, it never lets women achieve everything like a man does.. It is never equal, if we try to achieve one thing, it makes us divided and spreads hate between us.. We as a sisterhood, never did anything as a whole to create equality.. Lastly, it is possible for everygirl to have everything, carrier, beauty, happiness and success and happiness and they should have the freedom to choose what they want, without sacrificing any part of their entity..
